You just finished a first date. But by halfway through, you had already decided that you’re not that interested. You didn’t feel chemistry, though he’s a nice enough guy. As a Professional Matchmaker what I say is maybe it’s the time to think about why you should go out on a second date with him.
Let me give you a couple of things to think about. In today’s world of instant gratification, we are quick to dismiss potential partners based strictly on “chemistry”. Unfortunately, this keeps many people from exploring whether someone could truly be compatible.
While attraction is essential to a healthy relationship, it’s not necessarily something that is there right off the bat. We’ve all heard of the couples that start as friends or had no romantic feelings towards their ‘now’ spouse. It happens more frequently than you would think.
At the end of the day, you are looking for a partner, a best friend and a companion. There are a couple of questions you can ask yourself about him.
Does he seem like a genuinely good person at his core ?
Is he family oriented ?
How does he talk about his parents ?
Does he seem kind ?
Does he seem driven in life ?
This may seem like a lot to think about on a first date, but they are important considerations. These are often the qualities we look for in a potential mate, and there is good reason. Electric attraction will always fade at some point, but personality and laughter don’t.
A second date can tell you so much more that you may need to know. Some people get nervous on first dates. Often you are eating dinner, and you are not seeing your date interact in different situations. We always encourage our clients to go on a second date if they are on the fence.
Try something different for the second date. Go bowling, take a painting class, or some other fun activity to get both parties to loosen up and see what kind of connection follows. You never know, a second date could just lead to forever!
Just thinking about some of the will answer the question why you should go out on a second date with him.
